Priority Fees/Tips

Priority fee is a new concept introduced with the implementation of EIP-1559 on August 5th 2021. Since going live, gas fees on the Ethereum network consist of a base fee (protocol-defined) and a priority fee (user-defined tip) to incentivize validators to include their transactions in the next block.

Priority fees will be paid to a predefined address on the Execution Layer chosen by the block’s proposer if the validator does not run a MEV-boost software with their general Ethereum validator client.
